Comprehensive Exam

In-Depth Baseline – New Heights for Your Smile

Not all Reno dental exams are the same. That’s because not all dentists are the same. If you want to experience one of the most in-depth, detailed, and educational exams you have ever had, try a comprehensive exam from Wager Evans Dental. We tailor all of our dental care to meet your very specific and unique needs. That custom-care starts with our comprehensive exam – and continues through the life of your smile. It’s the baseline we use for everything we do from this visit forward.

Getting to Know You

This is one of the most important aspects of the Wager Evans Dental experience. Building a relationship with our patients helps us make sure that we are doing what’s absolutely best for you. The Wager Evans Dental team is full of dental experts, but you are the only expert on you. That’s why your first comprehensive exam at our Reno dental office starts with a conversation. During this time, you and Dr. Evans will get to know each other and talk about your past dental experiences, your needs, your medical history. You will also have plenty of time to ask any questions or bring up any concerns you have.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Your Oral Health

After your initial conversation, Dr. Evans moves on to the hands-on exam. These comprehensive exams include:

  • Inspecting all tooth surfaces for damage or decay
  • Evaluating soft tissue such as lips, tongue, cheeks, roof of mouth
  • Assessing periodontal (gum) tissue and gum-pocket measurement
  • Checking saliva production
  • Examining your head, neck, and lymph glands
  • Screening for TMJ disorder and sleep apnea
  • Determining occlusion
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Digital x-rays when needed
  • Intraoral photos

Of course, Dr. Evans will show you what he is looking at so you can get to know your smile right along with Dr. Evans.

When You Need X-Rays

Because we care about our patients, we use only digital x-rays during your Reno comprehensive exam. Digital x-rays expose patients to far less radiation than traditional x-rays, can be shared immediately with patients, and are stored digitally on our computers for easy access and reference.

X-rays are done at comprehensive exams for a new patient and when needed for existing patients. Dr. Evans uses radiographs or x-rays to check for problems that can’t be seen during a visual exam – in other words, trouble hiding under the surface of your enamel or your jaw. The type of x-rays you need is based on your age, health, risk of disease, and symptoms of an oral disease that may be occurring. Dental X-Rays are a great tool for early detection of:

  • Cavities hidden under fillings
  • Small cavities (incipient decay)
  • Effects of gum disease
  • Infections in the bone
  • Tumors
  • Cysts

Making a Plan

Once your exam is completed, we will continue our discussion by going over findings and answering questions. If we discover something that should be addressed, we will talk to you about your options and develop a treatment plan that meets your needs, your schedule, and your budget. You’ll leave this important visit to our Reno dental office with the confidence of knowing exactly what your smile requires to stay in great shape for life!
