Perio Protect

What is Periodontitis?

This is an infection that deteriorates the gum tissue and eventually can affect the jawbone, as well as many other health factors. A significant portion of the US population has a type of infection in their gums. The infection travels through the bloodstream which results in inflammation. The inflammation can cause many other problems and diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, some cancers, and even Alzheimer’s. The gum infection can even aggravate current health conditions. At Wager Evans Dental, we believe in the total care of our patients. We don’t want to minimize the impact of having strong healthy teeth, but now we know that gum health can have a bigger impact on your overall health and quality of life. To help diagnose gum disease early on and provide a comfortable, minimally invasive treatment, we offer Perio Protect. Perio Protect allows Dr. Evans to improve the health and appearance of your gingival tissue.

What is a Perio Tray?

A Perio Tray® is uniquely designed to fit each patient precisely. An impression of your mouth will be taken and sent with a prescription to a specialized dental laboratory for custom fabrication. Patients will receive detailed usage instructions based on their individual needs. For most people, the Perio Tray® is used for only minutes each day. Patients describe the Perio Tray® as comfortable, convenient, and easy to use. They especially appreciate its non-invasive technology.

Perio Trays® were cleared by the FDA in 2004 with the intended use to place solutions of the clinician’s choice into gingival crevices or periodontal pockets, the space that can develop between teeth and gum tissues when gum disease is present. Dentists may prescribe Perio Trays® when medications placed into the periodontal pocket could benefit a patient’s oral health.

Is a Perio Tray Right for You?

If Dr. Evans discovers any indicators of gum disease, he will recommend treatment. The treatment we prescribe will depend on the cause and extent of your periodontal problems. In some cases, the Perio Protect system may not be enough to properly address your gum issues. Otherwise, we can start you on the road to vibrant, healthy gums with Perio Protect.

What are the Causes and Symptoms of Gum Disease?

Gum disease develops when the gum tissue becomes inflamed, pulling away from the teeth and forming pockets at the gum line. Soon, bacteria invade these periodontal pockets and cause the onset of gum disease. Patients then experience a wide range of uncomfortable symptoms, including:

  • Sore and red gums
  • Gums that bleed easily
  • Bad breath
  • Receding gums
  • Loose teeth

Without treatment, gum disease soon attacks the connective tissue between the teeth and gums, causing them to deteriorate and leading to tooth loss. To protect the stability and health of your smile, you should seek treatment for gum disease as soon as possible. If you notice one or more of these symptoms, then schedule a consultation with your Wager Evans Dental team. Together, we help address your gum issues and restore the health of your smile. What causes the gums to become inflamed in the first place? A number of factors can increase the risk of gum disease, such as:

  • Plaque buildup
  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Illness
  • Certain medications

First time going to a dentist in over 10 years and it couldn’t have been better. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left it was as enjoyable as possible. Would recommend and will recommend to family!
