What is Perio Protect?

Symptoms of Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease begins with the inflammation of your gum tissue, or gingivitis. You may develop sore, red gums, and your gums may begin to bleed easily. If gingivitis is left untreated your gums will begin pulling away and forming pockets at the gum line. These pockets become infected with bacteria and may become pussy. Eventually the bacteria will move under the gumline and attack the connective tissue causing loose teeth. Next, the bacteria eats away at your jawbone which can lead to edentulism. Symptoms of periodontal disease include:
- Sore and red gums
- Gums that bleed easily
- Bad breath
- Receding gums
- Pus pockets
- Loose teeth
Causes
In a few cases periodontal disease may be genetic, but in the majority of cases it is due to poor oral hygiene or other issues. Some causes include:
- Plaque buildup
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Illness
- Medications
Perio Tray
At Wager Evans dental we can often treat periodontal disease with a Perio Tray®. A Perio Tray® is designed to fit each patient’s mouth precisely by taking an impression, which is then sent to a specialized dental laboratory for custom fabrication. In most cases, patients are only required to use the Perio Tray® for a few minutes each day. However, each patient receives detailed instructions based on their individual needs. The Perio Tray® is non-invasive, convenient, and comfortable. In some cases, the Perio Protect system may not be enough to properly address your gum issues.
