A bright smile can make a great first impression. However, a variety of factors in our lives can lead to stained teeth. In order to address discoloration and help you enjoy a bright smile you may need a cosmetic solution, such as teeth whitening. Do you have questions about teeth whitening?
Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening
Question: Why do our teeth become stained?
Answer: In most cases stains occur as a result of the foods and drinks we consume. Drinks with dark pigments (coffee, soda, tea, and red wine) as well as foods high in sugar can lead to discoloration. Smoking, age, fluorosis, trauma to the tooth, and the use of certain medications can also lead to teeth stains.
Question: How does in-office whitening work?
Answer: We actually offer two treatments; both can remove surface stains in about an hour. Both options, Sinsational Smiles and Sapphire by Rembrandt, involved applying a gel to the teeth and activating the bleaching ingredients with a curing light. The process lifts stains from the teeth.
Question: Can I brighten my teeth from home?
Answer: Yes. The doctor will take impressions of your teeth to create a set of trays. Each day you will fill the trays with a prescribed bleaching gel. You may wear them overnight or for a few hours daily, depending on the doctor’s recommendations. The entire process removes discoloration in about two to four weeks.
Question: How do I keep my smile bright?
Answer: How do you make your results last? Simple oral hygiene can help reduce the severity of future teeth stains. You should brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once. In addition, we recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year to remove plaque, which increases the chances of teeth becoming discolored.
