The Scope of Cosmetic Dentistry
Posted March 7, 2014 by Wager-Evans Dental
How you feel about your smile can strongly influence how you feel about yourself in general. If you hide your smile because you’re embarrassed by imperfections, your lack of self-confidence can show in your overall demeanor. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the aesthetic aspects of your smile, erasing imperfections to let your natural, beautiful smile show through. Since every smile is different, your smile improvement procedure will differ from everyone else’s, and may range from simple teeth whitening to completely revamping the visible surfaces of your teeth.
Does teeth whitening work for all teeth stains?
Teeth stains and discoloration occur in one of two places; on your teeth’s semi-translucent enamel or from within the dentin underneath it. Professional teeth whitening uses a specially-formulated gel that erases surface (extrinsic) stains to brighten your teeth’s appearance. If your teeth are discolored from within (intrinsic staining), then teeth whitening may not effectively erase the stains.
What is dental bonding made of?
Cosmetic dental bonding describes placing tooth-colored composite resin over a stained, chipped, cracked, or otherwise blemished tooth. Composite resin can be bonded to the tooth’s structure, then sculpted, hardened with a curing light, and polished for extra durability and a more lifelike appearance. Resin is also a popular restorative material, allowing Dr. Wager and Dr. Evans to create tooth-colored dental fillings for patients with mild to moderate cavities.
How do porcelain veneers improve your smile?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of dental ceramic, which are hand-crafted in a trusted dental lab by skilled technicians according to the precise measurements of your teeth. Each veneer is carefully bonded to the front of a tooth, creating a brand-new face for teeth that are discolored, slightly crooked, oddly-spaced, or misshapen.
What comprises a smile-makeover?
A smile makeover is a combination of cosmetic dentistry treatments, custom-designed to address the issues specific to your smile. After a thorough examination and personal consultation, Dr. Wager or Dr. Evans will help you decide how you want your new smile to look, and which treatments can achieve your goals with minimal disturbance to your healthy tooth structure.
