Reno Dentists: Remove Stains and Get Whiter Teeth

white smile Reno Did you know that your teeth yellow naturally over time? As we age, our tooth enamel thins, exposing the yellower layer beneath called dentin. However, other things can contribute to yellowing teeth. Foods and drinks with dark pigments, like coffee and soda, can stain teeth and strip away enamel. Poor oral hygiene can contribute to yellow teeth as well. Unfortunately, stained teeth may sap people’s confidence, preventing them from smiling as they try to hide their teeth. Hiding their smiles can lead to a lower quality of life because smiling has been shown to affect a person’s mood. Luckily, teeth do not have to remain stained. Professional teeth whitening can lighten your teeth several shades, restoring them to a lovely white that you’ll just have to show off. Reno Dentists Advise How to Avoid Wine Stains on Teeth

The holiday season is a time of celebration. For many, part of that celebration involves drinking a delicious glass or two of red wine. However, red wine has the unfortunate side effect of staining teeth. Your Reno dentists offer these tips to ensure that your teeth do not end up colored with the festive hues of the season.

Crunchy Veggies and Cheese

Nothing goes better with wine than cheese. Luckily, cheese can act as a natural barrier to the tannins in red wine that are notorious for staining teeth. Cheese is loaded with calcium, which can prevent discoloration when it is coated on the teeth. Hard cheese works better than softer cheese for this purpose. If you’re in a more healthful mood, munching on goodies from the veggie tray will also help. Common veggie tray staples like broccoli and cauliflower contain lots of fiber, and fiber will actually clean your teeth naturally. The fact that the veggies are also good for you is just a bonus. Stem Cell Therapy May Help Regenerate Jawbones in Reno

A research study has found that stem cells can be used for quicker and less invasive bone regeneration  in the medical field. Conducted at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and the Michigan Center for Oral Health Research, partnered with Ann Arbor-based Aastrom Biosciences Inc., the clinical trial involved 24 patients who needed jawbone reconstruction after getting teeth removed. Your Reno dentists, Dr. Wager and Dr. Evans, explain how the study might improve the future of dentistry.

Why Our Jawbones are Important

Implanting prosthetic teeth is very difficult to do when there is a jawbone deficiency in a patient. Titanium posts are used in traditional dental implant procedures. Without the presence of strong bone, there is no point of attachment for the posts, so natural looking restorative options are reduced. The absence of dental implants signals the body to stop sending minerals to that section of the mouth, so further jawbone degeneration is likely. When jawbone loss occurs, people tend to look more aged and sunken in their facial appearance. Continue reading “Stem Cell Therapy May Help Regenerate Jawbones in Reno”
